January is a terrible time for break-ups. Not that there is ever a particularly good time for it, mind, but good grief: everyone seems to be at it at the moment.
(Do not get us started on Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter.)
But look. You can’t beat a good breakup song. They’re therapeutic to whine along to when in dressing gown and box of tissues mode. And invigorating to dance that pain away to on the dancefloor.
We asked the Pop-Up Choir to list five of their favourites. There are just too many good ones out there to choose from though so we’ve got 10 for you, split over two blog posts. These five came from Jordana, Heike and Emma. Turn up the volume and sing your little heart out.
#1 Teddy Pendergrass, Don’t Leave Me This Way
#2 Joy Division, Love Will Tear Us Apart
#3 Neil Sedaka, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
#4 Ella Fitzgerald, Every Time We Say Goodbye
#5 James Blake, Retrograde
